Whilst 2020 and into 2021 is proving to be a challenge for everyone with COVID-19, it shown us that modern technology is able to improve access to healthcare advice for many patients.  I have been providing remote consultations for nearly a year now and have seen lots of benefits for my patients.  These include:

WILL I GET THE SAME STANDARD OF TREATMENT?

Yes, of course.  When I see patients for consultation it is an opportunity for me to learn about a patient's symptoms, their medical history and so on.  This can actually be covered very efficiently by remote consultation and in truth may patients find that being able to complete the pre-consultation information at home, allows them to get across their symptoms better than in the face to face meeting.  Many foot conditions are diagnosed with a combination of history and physical inspection.  Using a combination of photos and video I can nearly always help formulate a working diagnosis and treatment plan.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED FURTHER TEST?

If we think an x-rays or scan is required I will be able to arrange this remotely on your behalf.  We may then choose to review these remotely at another appointment or to meet face to face.

WILL YOU BE ABLE TO RECOMMEND TREATMENT BASED ON A REMOTE CONSULTATION?

In many cases your first line treatment plan will be the same as if you were seen in person. I will provide a detailed letter following the consultation explaining everything which has been discussed and a plan of treatment.  In most cases I will also provide you with information booklets, links and video about your condition and treatment.
