Nail matrix excision for Ingrowing toe nails

If you have an ingrowing toe nail (IGTN) you might be advised to have an operation to excise the nail bed rather than use the chemical technique.  The reasons for using this type of procedure (winograd) include:

• If you have poor healing (eg. diabetic, take steroids)

• If you have had previous nail surgery this phenol which has not worked

• If you have some enlarged skin around the nail fold (hypergranualtion tissue)

 

The advantage of this technique is that the toe will heal much more quickly compared with the phenolisation type operation.
