Scarf Bunion Correction

This is one of the most reliable techniques for correcting mild to moderate bunion deformity.  Mr Metcalfe has successfully performed thosuands of these operations over his twenty five year career as a leading Podiatric Surgeon.

The operation requires the minimum period of recovery and is provides excellent correction of bunions.  The key to this operation is having a surgeon who properly understands how to adjust the bone positions with precision to meet the specific needs of each patient.

Bunion correction with scarf osteotomy

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME AFTER THE SCARF PROCEDURE

The "SCARF" operation is an extremely reliable operation in the hands of an experienced foot specialist.  The operation provide a very stable contact between the bone surfaces which allows a short period of recovery.  No below cast is needed following the scarf osteotomy whereas many other procedures do require a below knee cast.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE KELLER OPERATION?

  • It should remove the joint pain

  • Any lumps and bumps around the joint can be removed

  • You can heel weight-bear almost immediately after the operation

WHAT ARE THE DOWNSIDES OF THE OPERATION?

  • If the bunion has been left too long and is very large then a scarf procedure may not be suitable

  • If there is arthritis in the joint you may get some stiffness after surgery.

I have lectured and published a number of papers on this particular operation.  Links to the papers are given below.
